Minister of Information Praises Media for Covering News During Pchum Ben

Phnom Penh: In his weekly meeting with leaders of the Ministry of Information on Monday 11 October, Minister of Information, Khieu Kanharith, has praised the media for covering events that happened during the Pchum Ben holiday. The Minister has specially thanked the General Department of National Television of Cambodia, the National Radio of Cambodia and AKP News. According to Khieu Kanharith, the General directors of these companies have done a great job broadcasting important matters during the holiday.

Some of the events that occurred during Pchum Ben included the Prime Minister’s speech advising the general public to follow hygienic measures against Covid-19 as well as the clarification of false reports in the Guardian and Washington post, claiming Prime Minister Hun Sen holds a passport of the Republic of Cyprus. Following the transmission from the media about that false information, the Prime Minister declared his “unique Khmer nationality” and received supporting messages from a large number of organisations and ministries. Later, the journals in question corrected their articles and sent letters of apology to the Prime Minister.

The Minister has also thanked media channels for working hard to broadcast the Prime Minister’s announcement regarding the draft amendment of the Constitution related to the nationality of the country’s top office bearers.
